Default The Word "Kite"?

I'm pretty fluent in standard internet slang, and some pretty specialized ones, too. I've seen this used once or twice, but is the word "kite" another word for "fleeing"?

The context I've seen them used in was "player who tries to kite (run away from your warrior)" and "kite him with traps (set traps and run to lure enemy into them)" Am I right? Or am I totally off?

pretty much right, kiting is the art of avoiding combat while dishing out damage.

Actually the term kites comes from doing dmg to someone (or something) while running away from them (it) while they follow you... like a kite

To successfully kite you need two things, the ability to do ranged damage, and the ability to move faster then your target. Haste spells work, but more often people use snare spells to hinder their victims move rate. Since you can now move (appx) twice as fast, you run a distance, then turn on your target and unleash. Repeat until target is dead.

You don't necessarily have to be doing the damage yourself. If you are in a group and the mob is on you, you can just dance trying to avoid getting hit while the rest of the party deals damage to it. This is also considered kiting.

Kiting is running away to avoid damage, but you are still looking to kill the mob. For example, lets say your going to kite a Warr in PVP (I doubt they would chase you after they see what your doing, but who cares, this is just an example.). There is only a Warr left on their team, and on your team you have a Ranger and Monk. The Ranger will use Pin Down on the Warr to slow him down, then use some damage shots to lower his life. When he starts getting close, he uses Pin Down again and runs away. After he uses Pin Down again, he repeats with damage shots. The whole time the healers only job is to keep you two alive, not to use smiting skills and waste energy. Just repeat that and the Warr/mob will eventually die.

Something I noticed about mobs on GW is they will not chase you down. After running so far, they will give up and turn around. Maybe if you don't run fast, or keep putting damage on them, they'll chase you a ways.

Hope that helps.

I found most mobs are very eager to get you dead and will follow you just about everywhere..

But, what I have noticed is that every mob will stop following you when you activate a skill like Dodge/Storm Chaser or any other skill that will increase your speed.

Seems if you can get the mob out of your aggro circle it will often give up, but that's not 100%
